You need to make sure that you get your prep right and that you keep your body moisturised so the tan fades evenly.
Below are my top tanning tips,
Day Before :- Wax/shave at least 24 hours before treatment
Night before shower and Exfoliate. Scrub away dead skin in all of the areas that are driest like elbows, knees, ankles and wrists. Make sure that you use an Oil Free Exfoliator – using oil based products will mean that any oils will sit on top of the skin which can make false tan look patchy.
Moisturise !!! Again using an oil free moisturiser, go over your driest areas and make sure that you really work it in to your hands-
this will ensure that you don’t have the orange hand look sported by many TOWIE cast member!
On the Day:- Have a shower before the treatment
Do not apply moisturiser the day of the treatment
Remove deodorant, perfume and make up
Wear dark underwear and loose clothing
Bring flip flops of loose shoes to wear after treatment
Paint nails with clear or coloured polish
Long hair to be tied up
When washing off don’t use a shower gel or oil. This can strip the tan leaving you back at square one.
Exfoliate & Moisturise regularly to keep the skin soft and to ensure fade off is even.
This also creates a perfect base for you to re-apply your tan.
Please Note:- Spray tanning is unsuitable for the following conditions:-
Clients with respiratory problems
Clients within the first 3 months pregnancy
The following skin conditions – psoriasis, dermatitis, severe eczema, hypersensitive skin
Under 16’s must have a parent present
Q & A
How does the tan work?
The body is sprayed with a solution that contains the active ingredient DHA (Dihyroxyacetone); a colourless sugar that reacts with the amino acids in the skin, which causes the skin to change colour producing a beautiful, glowing natural tan. DHA starts to react with the skin within 2 hours of tan application, and continues to do so for a total of 8 hours, after which time it is washed off.
How long will the tan last?
It really depends on the skin type. The skin naturally exfoliates every day, so it will depend on just how fast, also on how well the skin is looked after. Lifestyle can also contribute, e.g. certain activities, such as swimming in chlorinated water will cause the tan to fade more quickly. The tan will fade in about 5-7 days. However, moisturising daily will help to prolong the tan. The tan can be maintained with follow-up applications.
How often can someone have a tan?
As often as the client would like, the formula is completely safe. Most people like to top up their tan once a week, and it is completely safe to do so.
Does a spray tan provide SPF protection?
NO. Spray tans do not provide any sunscreen protection, so your client should apply sunscreen accordingly.
